ASCMV: Pet Adoption Event (8:00 am - 3:00 pm)
PET ADOPTION EVENTS SCHEDULED SATURDAY, JULY 31

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will conduct two pet adoption events this weekend.  Available for adoption will be dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.

Adoptions will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, adoptions also will be facilitated at PetCo, 3050 E. Lohman, in Las Cruces.

Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for cats/kittens. The fee includes the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

At the PetCo event, microchipping for pets that already have homes will be available to the public for $20, and city pet licenses will be available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each. Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued. Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

Estate Sale To Benefit Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary (8:00 am)
Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, a “no kill” shelter for cats and dogs, will be holding an estate sale to benefit their organization.  All proceeds from the sale will go to the feeding and housing of the pets at their sanctuary.  The sale will be held at 1455 So. Roberts Drive, Las Cruces on Saturday, July 31st starting at 8am and ending when everything has been sold.  Items consist of furniture, refrigerator, sofa sleeper and many more household items.  For further information call 527.4544 or 541.4942.


Grades 1 Though 6: Reading Book Program (All Day)
Now through September 7th, kids in grades 1 through 6 can earn a free book by reading eight books and turning in a completed Reading Passport. This will also qualify them for a chance to win a complete set of signed “The 39 Clues’ books! Teacher kits are available too.

Summer Food Service Program (All Day)
Summer Food Service Program Continues

The City of Las Cruces’ Summer Food Service Program continues until Friday, August 6th at various park and recreation/community centers throughout the community. The program is free for children between one and 18 years of age; no registration is required.

Lunch will be served through August 6th at the following sites:
* Apodaca Park, 801 E. Madrid, 12pm-1:30pm       
* Branigan Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., 12 pm – 1pm
* Frenger Park, 800 Parkway Dr., 12 pm – 1:30 pm
* La Fonda Mini Park, 1500 S. La Fonda Dr., 12 pm – 1 pm
* Lions Park, 701 W. Picacho, 12 pm – 1 pm
* Valley View Park, 750 S. Espina, 12 pm – 1 pm
* Meerscheidt Rec Center, 1600 E. Hadley, 12 pm – 1 pm

Various Streets To Have Lane Closures

Las Cruces motorists are advised that the following streets will have lane closures beginning Wednesday, July 28th. The closures will be in effect until approximately Wednesday, September 29th.

·         Keathley Drive from Alameda Drive to Phillips Drive
·         Three Crosses Avenue from Dona Ana Road to North Main Street
·         O’Donnell Drive from Payne Street to Gladys Drive
·         John Street from Triviz Drive to Payne Street
·         Milton Avenue from Espina Street to Kent Road
·         Tyre Circle from Payne Street to O’Donnell Drive
·         Montana Avenue from Solano Drive to Stull Drive
·         Pecos Street from Missouri Avenue to the north end of the cul-de-sac
·         Seldon Avenue from Walnut Street to Lewis Street
·         Solano Drive from Hadley Avenue to Amador Avenue
·         Spruce Avenue from Calle Sosa to Triviz Drive

Cutler Repaving Inc. will be performing overlay maintenance on the streets listed above. The closure may affect RoadRUNNER Transit Route No. 70 on Solano Drive and Route No. 80 on Motel Boulevard. Detours will be in effect for the duration of the work. Motorists wanting to avoid possible delays should seek an alternative route. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained during construction.
